End of April 2016

Guntersville Bass Guides   256-698-6593

As we come to the end of April I can only think about the grass topping out and big schools of bass getting buried up in it and them thumping a jig... But we are still dealing with a lot of fishing pressure and a shad spawn that most of the bass have no clue its happening, each morning we have been fishing shallow grass points with 4x4 swim jigs with little spankys on the back to catch some bass that are feeding up on some shad then as it gets later in the morning we back out a little and keep fishing the moving baits till we stop getting bites then we slow way down and drag a lizard or b bug it all depends on the mood of the bass. This bite will not last much longer so be ready for the bass to make yet another change in what they are doing..

We had a corp trip early in the week and it was one of the best days ive seen on the lake all year. We put the hammer down on them.. When I say it was like old times it was exactly like the old times I was able to run to areas that looked alike and pull up and my customers would just go to catching them and we would pick up and go somewhere else and repeat..

And I am glad we took advantage of them acting normal because the rest of the week it was back to grinding on them and working to get a bite....

We did manage these two on our last day of our trip.. we lost 2 just like these (hate to even write it ) but it happen.

Have a few days open in May and more in June if ledge fishing is on your to do list then give me a call so we can go out and catch some in June.

Lake Guntersville    256-698-6593

We had a great week of fishing!

We caught them a few different ways and we caught seme good ones too.
when we fished shallow we looked for clay points and used Texas Rigged Netbait Lizards with a 1/4 oz tungsten Green pumpkin was the color of choice. And in mid depth we used 1/2 oz Shock Blades with big spankys as trailers working the 4-6 foot range in the grass if you could find some wood it was even better then deepest we was able to get some bites was the 8-10 foot range was Kevin Hawk football jig by 4x4 1/2oz in green pumpkin with paca craw on the back dragging it around on points with a stump or two.

The lake is about to come alive with the warming temps we all have been waiting on this place is going to be a blast for the next couple of months. Have a few days open in May and June has more open so give me a call to get your bass on!

Lake Guntersville April 11th

Guntersville Bass Guides   256-698-6593

Fishing has had its ups and downs this year and this week is no different. With them trying to spawn and mother nature keeping the cold fronts rolling in and the bass keep moving around its no wonder the fishing is hard.

The best we have done is to get shallow and throw a 4x4 swimjig with a little spanky and cover water..... yea its not rocket science but its productive and the worst part is im not catching anything on places ive fished in the past its all new areas and its not all bad just have to learn them like I have my old stuff.. Kinda sad in a way I think all the places where we have crushed them they are not using ... oh well time to make some new memories.

water temps 59-61
water clarity 4 feet in some areas and dingy in others

Maybe next week I can tell you a fish story!

till then have fun fishing.

Leary & Hatfield Win ABA Ram %100 Team Plus

Guntersville Bass Guides  256-698-6593

I don't have a lot of pics to share with you guys since I had to stay off the water last week Mon-Thur so with one day to practice we did not catch a lot of fish due to the way the lake is acting with the fishing pressure so I'd figure I would share with you some short stories from Saturday March 26th.

We focused on grass in 6-8 feet of water and on the 1st cast in the morning went like this:
made the cast stepped on the trolling motor and it did'nt work and I noticed that the speed knob was on zero after adjusting it I picked up my rod and it was heavy so I did what anyone would do I Set The Hook and the bass came up and tried to jump and just wallered and she went 7.20 lbs. After a couple of hours we had small limit and had to make a decision, a 15 min boat ride and we was fishing again without any luck.. so from 9 till 12:30 we have not had a sniff we just kept moving and fishing until Steve got a bite and this fish did the same as mine did just to fat to jump and it was a 8.15 lbs and that culled a 3 lb bass now the pressure started. we had to leave to head back to the ramp around 3. We knew we needed a 5+ pounder to have a chance at doing really well in this tournament, it was not till around 2:45 that Steve hooked up with one right at the boat and it was well over 5 lbs after a few high fives we knew if we could get one more big one we would look pretty good so it was a hard last 10 mins of fishing with out another bite. So as we are heading in we figured we had 27-28 lbs.

The moment when it got real:
While bagging up our fish we realized there was not enough room in the bag with enough water and the bass , a buddy on the dock suggested we use 2 bags as he went to get us another one, so yes we copied Rick Clunn and used two bags to carry our bass to the scales, When we dumped the fish in to the bump tank they grew a little more from the last time I seen them 5 mins ago well the time came to set them on the scales to see what the Big G Blessed us with............... 31.15 lbs  wow talk about a true surprise.

We was in the next to last flight so we still had to wait it out for awhile and when it was over I could take a deep breath.

This was the 1st time winning a new boat for me and Steve and its pretty cool little boat but its for sale so you can contact me if your interested in buying it...

March Madness 2016

Guntersville Bass Guides  256-698-6593

The Madness Of March is upon us!

Its been a week of ups and downs and a lesson in life.

Mike drove from Oklahoma to check off Guntersville next to his bucket list

So the Big G is showing signs of greatness once again even with all the fishing pressure we managed to catch some donkeys. The bass are on the move and we are hot on their tails. Fishing from daylight to dark every day.. And lets just say its been hard week of work..

We have been fishing from a foot of water to 10 feet with lipless crank baits to 4x4 Swimjigs and Picasso Shock Blades. Mix in a causeway with a red crank bait and you have yourself a day of good bass fishing . Finding the bass is the hardest part of the puzzle because they are not staying long in areas so when you do find them they will jerk the rod out of your hands and it is a blast for a little bit till its time to find some more! Water temps are around 55-60 just depending on what depth your in and what part of the creek as well.

Had a few slabs too.

Gage Spent his 15th birthday with us on Lake Guntersville

Happy Birthday Gage!
Sometimes its more then catching bass or even big bass I learned that sometimes the time you spend with a loved one doing something you both love. Pictured below is Michael and Bobby they went fishing to just relax and tell some stories. I wish you to the best with your upcoming treatments.

You know I cant have a March fishing report with out this guy in it , Mike from Ohio came down to do some fishing. Here is the pic of our last day for this trip..
