Lake Guntersville Donkey Days

Lake Guntersville was fun yesterday these pics will show just how awesome it is. Not going to say we had a record breaking day but it was close.

I look for things to only get better.

All these fish came off one spot in 30 mins it was like its suppose to be, but don't try to repeat because they still have not gotten where they want to be and that is still a mystery.

But as of right now if you are not throwing the new SPRO Little John XL your missing out on some fish catches of a lifetime its like when the Alabama Rig 1st came out its that crazy.

Come and Get You Some Bass Palm (its like bass thumb but only better)

No bass was pictured twice

Will They Go or Will They Stay

So with May just around the corner and the thoughts of off shore fishing is dancing in many of our heads. But will they GO out or will they stay in the grass?
This is a tough one to call the water temps are slowly rising and so is the new grass that is popping up all over, and this is the gras that we all are use to fishing in March ....... So with that being said I think the Bass really like the grass and so do the shad and with the shad spawn starting up river around the new growth of Milfoil and the fish acting like they are still 3 weeks behind I won't have any urges to fish out deep till I see some changes.

We found a old spot that has some quality fish on it up by Goosepond nicknamed the Shell Bed my clients was able to catch a few good ones every day this past week they start schooling pretty early and its a lot of fun for the young and old so give it a try I think the best is still to come on that spot.

With the bass sticking to the grass we have rigged up NetBait BK SwimBaits , Big Spanky's to swim through the grass and 15 inch C-Mac worms in Green Pumpkin and Watermelon Red. They may not be in the same old spots but they are in that grass pretty thick and if you think outside the box just a little you may run into the mother load. Don't forget to try the new SPRO Little John XL on the deeper grass lines this thing is a killer we have had the bait for a few months now and it has had its ups and downs just like the weather we have had.. But it sure shined yesterday and it will continue to kick out some big uns..

Have a great weekend

The Wind was a Pain

So fighting the wind is probably the hardest thing to do while fishing let alone while guiding, we made the most of it catching a few quality bass on Texas Rigged NetBait B Bugs with 1/2 oz weight (just so we could cast) we fished the seibold area trying to duck out of the wind behind the islands with very little luck.

Hope the wind don't blow tomorrow.

water cleared up some and got up to 66 degrees

Lake Guntersville 4.21.15

Mixed in some new with the old today and the new water is by far the most productive even if it is mudding up. So the fishing seemed a little slow for bigger bites but the smaller guys would peck at our lures pretty often. We fished in South Sauty and Mink Creek today and seen several good size bass on bed like 6 pounds easy, we did not mess with them much my clients enjoyed looking at them for a little bit.  So we tried to mix it up some and not a lot has changed the NetBait B Bug Texas Rigged was the weapon of choice (Black Blue) and we started mixing in the BK Swimbait paired with Boyd Ducketts 4x4 Head Hunter on some shallow points inside mink and ended up catching some Crappie.

Lake Guntersville 4/20/15

Well Stuck with my new mission to fish new water and its paying off in a big way!
They did eat the Big Thump but they preferred two other NetBait Lures the home run hitter was the B Bug in Black n Blue and the other was the Baby Mad Paca in June Bug we caught 15 bass and had some really good ones too.. The new water we fished was on the east side of the lake around South Sauty Creek fishing in 6-8 feet of water.

Water Temp was 68 degrees and very stained.

Lake Guntersville Fishing Report 4.19.15
The Big G has shown off this week with fishing being easier then it has been all spring.. Until Saturday when things got complicated again, what, why, how could this happen, ???? I believe its all the boat traffic these fish are getting wise to the sounds of boat motors, trolling motors, and Hydrowaves. All week we had awesome fishing pull up to a location and catch them like they have never seen a lure before pull up to the same spots and new spots on Saturday its like the bass are just sitting down there laughing their tales off.

What do we do to catch these guys?! Get off the beaten path explore the lake for the new honey holes and mix in some old spots to keep them honest pull out some confident lures and get to work, as for me I'll pick up a good old Texas Rig with NetBait Big Thump with a 3/8oz weight and get to chunking. At what ? Going to look for grass, rock, and wood and fish it slow, I talked to one of the great fisherman on Lake Guntersville yesterday and he said something that really stuck in my head, and it was "I gotta take baby steps to get back in to it" So with that being said its time to relearn Lake Guntersville start from scratch and start with a new piece of the puzzle.

On a different note my co angler in the BFL just about won it he was only a few ounces shy of it.
Great Job Marcus.

Like Her Old Self

Lake Guntersville is starting to look like her old self this past week with fish settling in.
We've been finding some pretty good bass this week just not a lot of them but "its coming" Our best bait hands down is a NetBait Mad Paca in Watermelon Red Texas Rigged on a 5/0 Gamakatsu EWG Hook with a 3/8 to 1/2 oz sinker.
The Grass is popping up and the bass are attacking our lures as we fish them.

Water is holding around 68 degrees and stained.

Give me a call and I'll get you on the water

Under Armour Fishing
Lake Guntersville gave up some Donkeys this past week with one day that was just awesome. I fished with Masa he is from Japan and made a special trip to come fish Lake Guntersville with me and WOW is all I can say he started the day off with a 9-02 lb largemouth then backed it up with a 9-09 lb largemouth in a few cast later. I managed to get a 9-05 lb a little later in the day. It took him a few hours to relaize what he had done, but I knew what had happen it was a trip of a life time. We are focusing on clay points in 5-7 feet of water if you can find one with some wood on it that makes it that much better of a spot. Our baits of choice have been 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz SPRO Aruku Shads in Chrome and Black, and Red then switching over to Texas Rigged NetBait Lizards and working them slow. Duckett Micro Magic 7’6 Med Heavy Rods Ducket 360 Reels Sunline Sniper FC 16lb Cameron Gautney and I fished the Alabama Bass Trail on Neely Henry Saturday and we did not blank this year we actually cut a check we took 15th place and moved to 3rd in the AOY standings. The Big Girls Are Showing Up In New Places Daily If You Want To Set The Hook , Give Me A Call. Come take a ride in my Legend V20 and see why its awesome.
Lake Guntersville 3/23/15 Its amazing what a little sunshine can do! We started the day off with a bang catching fish right off the get go! The water temp was 54 at daylight and got up to 60 at the end of the day. Our best bait and only bait for the day was a SPRO Aruku Shad 65 (1/2 oz) Black N Chrome and Red. 7 feet of water was the ticket to get bites and the Hydrowave was a big player in getting the fish active. we had plenty of fish and even lost some that I wish we could of taken a pic with it was a great day with great guys that love the sport of fishing. No bites today on any slow moving baits and that was all we could get a bite on yesterday. Tomorrow is a new day . Capt. Jim Leary 256-698-6593

Soggy Sunday

Soggy Sunday! 3/22/15 We Managed Some Bass Today. Its no secret the bass moved to the shallows. The bites are still not like what I had hoped for this time of year, the numbers are down. I think we need some more sun shine to get things rolling. Here is what we did to get the bites, We fished old pad stems and primrose with NetBait Lizards, Big Thump Worms (green pumpkin) , and SPRO Bronzeye Frogs We used Gamakatsu Super Line 5/0 EWG Hooks for our soft plastic baits we rigged them Texas Style. Sunline Sniper FC 16 pound line was the key for getting them out of the thick primrose. We targeted shallow flats in 3-4 foot of water was the best. Water Temp 57.7 most of the day and the water was very clear. You can find all these items at Guntersville Tackle and Outdoors. Capt. Jim Leary 256-698-6593

Fishing Report

March 7th 2015 Fished the FLW BFL Yesterday with the hopes of catching five, I did manage 5 ok keepers had 7 bites the whole day ended in 12th place with 17-4 my non boater had 2 and landed 1 and it was a 3 lb, He drove from Ohio to fish the BFL with his father as a guys get a way, Harbor Lovin is 16 years old and has a lot of potential I really enjoyed fishing with him and wish him the best. The bass was not as active as they had been before the recent cold snap. I mixed up what I was using all day long it was like controlled junk fishing SPRO U.S.A Aruku Shad and the NEW Little John Crews XL (which should be available at the end of March) 4x4 Bass Jigs New Head Hunter and Swimjig. I was focusing on shallow areas that held eel grass mixed with new milfoil one of the tricks was to let the fish eat the bait before you set the hook they seemed to be gun shy. I worked areas in the mid lake area. The Little John XL was the big player i'd get it hung in the grass then rip it out and let it pause if one didnt eat it and with the other moving baits it was just a steady retrieve. Fishing Report

Lake Guntersville. Stumbled on to something new today. I think the big bass have thrown us a curve ball and made a mad dash to the shallows. Break out the Netbait Big Spankys and put them on 4x4 Bass Jigs Swim Jig. Still having to cover water to get bites but they are there. Guntersville

Went out 1st thing this morning and didn't last but 30 mins it was so cold when I would cast the ice would build up and stop the cast. Just not a lot of fun, so went home for a few hours and went back out with Eric for the afternoon and it was much warmer and we managed to catch a dozen cookie cutters on a SPRO U.S.A Little John DD in Nasty Shad in 14-18 feet of water it just felt like mush when one grabbed the bait. Guntersville is pretty fun when the weather is decent. I have select days open.. Capt. Jim 256-698-6593 guntersvillebassguides.com

fishing on Guntersville

This report is for this past week. 3 that went 21-11 lbs With the 1st FLW BFL on Lake Guntersville on Saturday I hit the lake every day searching for the winning bag of fish. Some days it made sense and some days it was like hitting your head on a wall until you got a clue. I will say this I caught more 7+ lb bass this week then I ever have before. Not all spots are the same for a example my spots up river i needed to Yo YO a Aruku 65 in 9 ft of water and that would get you dozen 3 pounders and mid lake I had to rip a Aruku 75 out of the grass in 12 ft of water and that wasn't a lot of bites but they all where good ones, and lower end just had to burn aAruku 75 on grass lines in 10ft of water and win you found one you found many more with in 20 yards. So yes I really thought I had a chance to do well in the BFL.. Either my decision making was little rusty or I was to stubborn any way the 1st spot yielded me and my Co Angler a double the 1st 10 mins a 4 & 3 pounders and 2 hours later we picked up two more 3 pounders and thats all we did. We all have them kinda days mine was Saturday. But my partner Cameron Gautney Tore them up on Saturday with just over 24lbs to take 5th and his co angler won with 3 fish for 19lbs Congrats to them both. Check out these Toads from last week on Lake Guntersville. Such a great week of fishing even if mother nature was not so nice but these Guntersville Bass just love the nasty weather.. Fishing Report

Lake Guntersville Thats what we have to show for a full day of fishing. Not real sure what changed besides the wind, we fished hard all day and the ones we got where quality. SPRO U.S.A Aruku Shad had most the action today along with a Fat John. Water Temp 47 and Clear Tomorrow's a new day, looking forward to it already. Capt. Jim guntersvillebassguides.com 256-698-6593

Fishing Report

Lake Guntersville 1.28.15 The day started off with a bang with a solid bass on a Aruku Shad and we must of hit him on the head because for the next 2 hours we chunked n wind, yo yo'ed, our baits with them just slapping at it. When the wind laid down and the sun popped out things began to pick up some with many missed oppertunities either pulling off during the fight or human error trying to boat flip a chunk we salvaged the trip with some decent bass, when they started to get active you had to tick the grass a steady pace with a some twitching every now and then, you had to be in the green grass if you was bringing back stalks you needed to move on till you found the thick green grass.. We took pics and they headed home. With it being so nice out I went back out over the areas where we had bites and managed to land a couple. Doing the same retrieve I got lucky when this Toad loaded up my rod, it was a great fight she pulled drag a few times before I was able to land her and she was a tank I should of measured her I'm guessing she was 26-27 inches long and fat, and the bass that is in the pic with her was your standard 4lb Guntersville Largemouth. Water Temp 48 (end of day) some stain Capt. Jim 256-698-6593
